Welcome!

Hi all! 

 This is my very first blog post and I want to keep it short and welcome you to my newly created blog. I plan to share full STEAM ahead on this blog! I am a middle school math and science teacher. I also teach elementary keyboarding half a day. I am also starting my very own classroom Makerspace this year!
I want to share my journey with each of you through the most wonderful job in the whole entire world. I'm looking forward to many new experiences coming up in the 2017/2018 school year. My district, Blair Oaks, is planning to go 1:1 with technology from 1st grade through 12th grade and I couldn't be more excited. We will be hosting many training sessions for teachers and I will be a part of the trainers. I want to share some of those trainings here along with many other tips I find to help integrate technology in the classroom.

 A few little tidbits about me..... I am currently starting my 11th year of teaching, all of which have been at Blair Oaks. I have taught the gammot: math, science, social studies, writing, drama, yearbook, keyboarding, and I'm sure I've missed something along the way. Just this past spring I got my Level 1 and Level 2 Google Certifications and as of right now I've passed my Google Trainer Skills Assessment exam and am working on submitting my video and application to become a Google Certified Trainer! I am so excited to get this title added to my name! I'm also a wife and mother of 3 wonderful kiddos.

So I started the year with good intentions of blogging about transforming my classroom into a student-centered one, but things didn't go as planned. I always question if I should write about a certain topic or not. I procrastinate until it seems too far past the event to write about it. Life and teaching keep me occupied. Someone, Please Notice Her Bow

My 6 year old daughter, Laci, got a new bow this weekend. Not just any bow, her first "Jo Jo" bow. I had no idea there was a certain name, or brand of these "big bows" I see girls wearing, but Laci knew. Oh, she knew. And she is overjoyed for her first, "Jo Jo" bow. She could have gotten a small bow, but she REALLY wanted a big one, so that's what she picked out. Last night, she made sure to pick out her favorite outfit that just so happens to match her new bow. She was already excited to start Monday with her favorite outfit, new bow and of course we had to do a "high ponytail" to go with that bow. She got up early, got dressed, got ready and handed me the brush to get that high ponytail just right and get that bow situated right on top of her head. Make Math Fun

Well my blogging journey has not taken off like I had hoped. I haven't taken the time to sit down and type as much out as I had planned. It's never too late to start, though, right?! :) Well here goes..... I have been on a mission this year. My mission is to make learning fun for all kids of all abilities. Some kids are good at certain subjects and some just aren't as good. However, kids should still love learning no matter what their abilities are. My goal is for all of my students to walk away from my classes wanting to be lifelong learners. A quote I've recently heard from multiple sources is "I don't teach a test. I teach kids." So my focus this year is on teaching kids and meeting them where they are. I teach 5th Grade Math and 6th Grade Science. This is only my 3rd year of teaching math, but I knew my methods needed to change. They were the same everyday. I was very predictable. LOL.
